Delhi: The Indian team has suffered a major setback in the final phase of preparation for the Champions Trophy 2025. The team’s veteran batsman Virat Kohli is out of the first ODI against England. During the toss, captain Rohit Sharma said that Kohli has suffered an “knee injury”, due to which he is not playing in this match.
In the absence of Kohli, young batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal has got an opportunity to debut ODI. Fast bowler Harshit Rana has also been included in the ODI team for the first time. The BCCI also confirmed that Kohli is out of the match due to “mild knee mild pain”.
When were it out before?
- Earlier, Kohli was out of the Oval, London played in 2022 due to the back-spasm.
- He missed the final Test of the 2017 Border-Gavaskar series due to a shoulder injury during the Ranchi Test in the Test format.
- Then in 2022, Kohli did not play a second Test against South Africa in Johannesburg due to upper back cramps.
- In 2018, Kohli missed a decisive match of another series against South Africa in Cape Town due to a backing tight.
