Delhi: The England Cricket Board (ECB) has so far hosted the two World Test Championships (WTC) finals, and the upcoming finals, which will be played between Australia and South Africa in June 2025, will also be held at the prestigious Lord’s ground in England. Meanwhile, India has expressed interest in hosting the 2027 WTC final.
According to The Guardian report, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has recently expressed the intention of hosting this final in a meeting of the ICC Chief Executive Committee held in Zimbabwe. BCCI CEO Arun Singh Dhumal represented the Indian in this meeting, while Jai Shah is currently the chairman of the ICC. In such a situation, it is considered almost fixed by the BCCI on formal bidding.
The 2021 WTC final was played between India and New Zealand at Rose Bowl in Southampton, while in 2023 the final between India and Australia took place at the Oval ground in London. On both occasions, there was tremendous success in ticket sales, even if England itself did not join the finals.
This year’s WTC final will be played at Lord’s from June 11, with Australia and South Africa face to face. The special thing is that the first four -day tickets have already been sold completely.
The report also states that if India hosts the 2027 final and Pakistan qualifies, the ICC may have to make special arrangements under its current hybrid model. This model is being implemented from this year’s Champions Trophy, in which India and Pakistan play only on neutral venue against each other.
