Delhi: Team India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel said that he was a bit nervous before the tour of England, because in the last few months the team has not participated in the cricket of the red ball. India played the last Test match during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in January this year. After that the players were busy with the white ball tournament like Champions Trophy and Indian Premier League (IPL).
The new ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle for India will begin with the tour of England. India missed out on making it to the finals. Speaking to the official website of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Morne Morkel said that he is satisfied with the preparations so far and the team is creating a good atmosphere.
Morne Morkel said, “I am satisfied to see the training since the beginning. The red ball was a little concerned about the lack of cricket, but the way the players are training in the last three days, it is pleasant to see. Our team is fantastic, the players have good energy and this will be useful in the confidence and team spirit Test series.”
Morkel said that continuity is the most important thing to perform in England. He said that this time there is a lot of diversity in the bowling attack of the team, which will be a big benefit. Former South African Pesar said, “Consistency is very important in England, whether it is practice, or preparation outside the field. Every player has to understand what process works for them and will have to stay on it. We have different skill bowlers, which can also do the basic things.”
Let us tell you that India will play an Intra-Squad practice match from June 13. Morkel believes that the practice that has been done so far, the pitches have been helpful for the fast bowlers, which has also challenged the batsmen. He said, “In the last two days of practice, the pitches have been favorable for the fast bowlers. This has also helped the batsmen to prepare, as they too will have to face similar situations in England.”
Morkel further said, “When the wicket is helping, the bowlers talk a lot, but when the wicket is flat, it is necessary to show the same enthusiasm. At the same time, the real ‘character’ is seen. This is what I am going to explain to the bowlers.”
Significantly, the first Test match between India and England will be played in Headingley (Leeds) from 20 June. With this match, the new ICC World Test Championship session will also be started for both teams.
