Delhi: India not only lost the series in the last match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, but its dream of reaching the final of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 was also shattered. In the decisive Test played at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), host Australia won by 6 wickets and won the trophy 3-1. After this defeat, Indian team’s acting captain Jasprit Bumrah expressed deep regret.
After the Sydney Test, Bumrah said, “It is disappointing. But, sometimes you have to respect your body. I could not bowl in the second innings, which was difficult for me. I felt a little uncomfortable during my second spell in the first innings. Our bowlers performed well, but due to lack of one bowler, there was more pressure on other players.”
Bumrah further said, “This morning we talked about maintaining faith in ourselves. However, now there will be a lot of ‘ifs and buts’ after the defeat. We fought hard throughout the series. In Test cricket, it is very important to stay in the game for a long time and withstand the pressure. “We were still in the game today, it wasn’t that we were completely out.”
Praising the young players, Bumrah said, “Our young players have learned a lot from this series. They will emerge stronger. This experience will make them better in future. There is a lot of talent in the team and the players will learn from this defeat and move forward. It was a great series. Congratulations to Australia on their victory. He showed an excellent game.”
Jasprit Bumrah became Player of the Series
Even though India lost the series, Jasprit Bumrah impressed everyone with his performance. He was given the title of ‘Player of the Series’ for his excellent bowling in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Bumrah bowled a total of 151.2 overs in the series and took 32 wickets, which was the highest among Indian bowlers. He took wickets at an average of just 13.06 and achieved five wicket hauls thrice and four wicket hauls twice.
