Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has given a strong response to former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Tejashwi Yadav advocating the Indian cricket team to go to Pakistan to play matches. Talking to the media on Friday, BJP MLA Pawan Jaiswal said that it is not the job of Tejashwi Yadav to decide whether the Indian team will go to Pakistan or not. He said, “It is for the Indian team to decide whether it wants to play there or not.”

Speaking to the media on the last day of the assembly session, Tejashwi Yadav said, “Why should the Indian cricket team not go to Pakistan? Didn’t the team go to Pakistan earlier? If the Prime Minister goes to eat biryani then everything is fine, but if the Indian team goes to play then how did it go wrong?” He said that it is not appropriate to link sports with politics. Exchange of sports builds better relations between countries.

What did BCCI say to ICC?

On the other hand, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) that the Indian team will not participate in the Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan in 2025. BCCI said that this decision has been taken on the advice of the Government of India.

The Champions Trophy is scheduled to be held between eight teams from 19 February to 9 March 2025. According to reports, a hybrid model can be adopted for the tournament. For the last few years, the Indian team has not toured Pakistan due to security reasons.
