Delhi: A new chapter has started in Indian cricket. On Saturday, the Indian Selection Committee appointed star opener Shubman Gill as the new captain of India’s Test team in a historic decision. Team India’s first major exam led by Gill will be a five -match Test series against England, which will start from June 20 and will run till the beginning of August. The same series will also launch the new ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.
Sharing his feelings after becoming a captain, Shubman Gill said, “When a child starts playing cricket, his dream has to play for India. Not only for India, but a dream of playing Test cricket for a long time. I am getting this opportunity a great honor and a big responsibility is also associated with it.”
Great performance in IPL 2025
Shubman Gill, who hails from Punjab, is currently the captain of Gujarat Titans (GT) in IPL 2025. This season, he batted brilliantly and included himself in the top run-scores. Under his captaincy, Gujarat’s team is at the top of the points table and has already made it to the playoffs.
As soon as the IPL is over, Gill’s attention will be fully focused on the captaincy of the Indian Test team. The 18 -member team will leave on a tour of England from June, where they will play the historic series.
