Delhi: Team India’s mysterious spinner Varun Chakraborty performed brilliantly in the pre-quarterfinals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy and played an important role in restricting the Rajasthan team to 267 runs. At one time Rajasthan was moving towards a big score, but Varun’s mystery spin shook the entire innings. This right-arm spinner took 5 wickets for just 52 runs and with his bowling claimed a place in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Chakraborty poached Abhijeet Tomar, Mahipal Lomror, Deepak Hooda, Ajay Singh and Khalil Ahmed from Rajasthan. The special thing is that at one time Mahipal and Abhijeet had made a century partnership, but Varun broke this partnership. He first dismissed Deepak for just 7 runs and then showed centurion Abhijeet the way to the pavilion. After this he completed 5 wickets by taking the wicket of Khalil.
This performance can prove to be very important for Varun, because there is talk that he can be selected in Team India for the Champions Trophy. India’s final team can be selected by January 12. At the same time, Kuldeep Yadav is not completely fit yet, and in such a situation, Varun Chakraborty’s name is included among the major contenders. He has taken maximum 18 wickets so far in the current tournament.
Varun Chakraborty’s career
Varun Chakraborty has taken 19 wickets in 13 T20 International matches for India, but he has not made his ODI debut yet. His record in List A cricket is excellent. Varun, who has taken 59 wickets in 23 matches, has taken five wicket hauls four times. His current performance could pave the way for him to start his ODI career and help him get a place in the Champions Trophy.
