Delhi: In IPL 2025, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captaincy has been handed over to Ajinkya Rahane. The team released the captain of the previous season Shreyas Iyer, after which many names were being discussed. According to reports, Venkatesh Iyer and Sunil Narayan were also in this race, but the team management expressed confidence in Rahane’s experience.
‘Rahane has all the qualities’
KKR CEO Venky Mysore said that Venkatesh Iyer’s name was considered, but captaincy required maturity and experience, which Rahane has. However, Venkatesh was purchased in the mega auction for Rs 23.75 crore and has been made the vice-captain.
Mysore said, “IPL is a very pressure tournament. Venkatesh is a great player, but the pressure of captaincy can be difficult for young players. We have seen that many players struggle with this pressure. Rahane has 185 IPL matches and 200 international matches. He has captained India, Mumbai and IPL. So this decision was natural. “
He further said, “To become a successful captain, one has to have good relationships with every member of the team. Also, preparations before the match, batsmen and bowlers’ meetings, interaction with coach – all these are important. We are happy that we have an experienced captain like Rahane. “
The IPL 2025 will start from March 22, where the first match will be played between KKR and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
