Delhi: Indian fast bowler Umran Malik has joined the current champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) team between the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025). However, the 25 -year -old speedster will not be an active player of the team, but will continue his rehabilitation under KKR’s ‘Return to Cricket’ program.
Significantly, Umran Malik was bought by KKR in the Mega auction of IPL 2025, when he was released by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). However, he was out of this season due to injury.
On Friday, the KKR franchise confirmed through his social media handle that the injured fast bowler Umran Malik would join the team during IPL 2025, but only for rehabilitation. He will continue to work with the players and support staff of the team, so that he can fully fit the field as soon as possible.
KKR said, “He is not an official part of the team’s squad, but will work with the support staff towards returning to his best form.”
In IPL 2024 too, Umran Malik got a chance to play only one match for SRH. In the last season, he took only 5 wickets in 8 innings.
KKR status
KKR, led by Ajinkya Rahane, has faced 3 out of 8 matches and 5 defeats in IPL 2025 so far. His net run rate is also in a worrying position with -0.212.
Now the current champion KKR will compete against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Saturday, 26 April. This important match will be played at the historic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Significantly, Umran Malik is counted among the fastest bowlers in India.
