Delhi: The 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be played in the year 2025. After the recent mega auction, major changes were seen in all the 10 teams. In this series, Mumbai Indians, one of the most successful franchises of IPL, has made a major change in its coaching staff after the mega auction. The team has appointed John Hopkinson, who has worked in the England coaching staff for 6 years, as its new fielding coach. Hopkinson may not have played international cricket, but he has good experience of playing first class and List-A cricket.
Hopkinson was part of the coaching staff of the England team since 2018.
John Hopkinson, now 43, became part of the coaching staff of the England men’s cricket team in 2018. During his coaching, England won the ODI World Cup in 2019 under the captaincy of Eoin Morgan and the T20 World Cup in 2022 under the leadership of Jos Buttler. Hopkinson has played 64 first-class matches, 92 List-A and 28 T20 matches. His experience as a player and coach can prove beneficial for the players of Mumbai Indians in the upcoming season.
Jayawardene and Mhambre also return
Mumbai Indians have also made other changes in the coaching staff. After IPL 2024, the team has removed Mark Boucher from the post of head coach and again given this responsibility to Mahela Jayawardene. Along with this, former Indian team bowling coach Paras Mhambrey has been made the bowling coach of Mumbai Indians.
All these changes can prove to be important in strengthening the success of the team in the upcoming IPL season.
