Mumbai Indians have made major changes in their coaching staff ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The five-time champion team has made a new change in its fielding department. He has appointed England’s Carl Hopkinson as his new fielding coach. Carl Hopkinson will replace James Payment in the Mumbai team. He was a part of the team for the last seven years and also played an important role in Mumbai Indians winning the Indian Premier League in 2019 and 2020.

The legend, popularly known as Hoppo, was also the head fielding coach of the Three Lions for the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2022, where the team reached the final for the first time since 1998 and finished runner-up. Mumbai Indians issued a statement saying, ‘With this change, our long-serving fielding coach James Pamment bids farewell to #OneFamily after 7 years of invaluable contribution where he won two trophies in 2019 and 2020. We would like to thank him and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.

Let us tell you that his journey as a fielding coach started with the Sussex team in the Champions League T-20. He has been associated with the coaching staff of the team since 2010. He also served as Sussex’s second XI coach between 2012 and 2016, before moving to the England setup in 2018.

Coral Hopkinson has never played an international match. In his playing career for Sussex, Hopkinson played 64 first-class matches, scoring 2,705 runs at an average of 27.60, including three centuries. He scored 1,400 runs in 92 List-A matches and 165 runs in 28 T20 matches. Apart from this, he was also an important member of Sussex which won the County Championship in 2007.

Talking about Mumbai Indians team, it is looking very strong in the upcoming season. Hardik Pandya will be seen captaining the Mumbai Indians team in the upcoming season. Last season was not so good for the team. However, Mumbai Indians would definitely like to win the upcoming season.
