Delhi: Mumbai Indians (Mi) will have to land in the opening matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) without their star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah is still recovering from the lower back injury in January and is currently going through the process of rehabilitation at the Center of Excellence of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in Bengaluru. If they get medical clearance, they can join the team in early April.

According to reports, Mumbai Indians will play three matches in March, allowing Bumrah to stay out of important matches of the initial phase. He suffered a back injury during the last Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy played in Sydney on 4 January, due to which he could not even play in the Champions Trophy. This injury has become a matter of concern for him.

During the announcement of the Indian team for the Champions Trophy, chief selector Ajit Agarkar had said that BCCI’s medical team advised to take at least five weeks rest after the Sydney Test. He was included in the India team, but the injury situation remained serious during the scan in February, causing him to be out of the tournament.

At the moment it is not clear how many IPL matches Bumrah will miss. The first match of Mumbai Indians will be in Chennai against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on 23 March, while on March 29, Team will play in Ahmedabad against Gujarat Titans (GT). Their first domestic match will be against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on 31 March, followed by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on 4 April and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on 7 April.
