IPL 2025: Nawab of Lucknow, LSG suffered a 37-run loss against Punjab Kings

Delhi: The 54th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 was played between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Dharamshala. After winning the toss, the Lucknow captain decided to bowl first, but his decision proved to be reverse. Batting first, Punjab scored a huge score of 236 runs after losing 5 wickets in 20 overs. Chasing the target, Lucknow’s team could only score 199 runs and had to face defeat by 37 runs.

First innings game

The start for Punjab Kings may have been bad, when opener Priyansh Arya returned to the pavilion after just 1 run, but after that the batsmen scored an aggressive manner.

Prabhasimran Singh played a restrained but fast -paced innings of 91 runs (in 48 balls), which included 6 fours and 7 long sixes. At the same time, Josh English also scored fast and scored 30 runs in 14 balls. Captain Shreyas Iyer also played a brilliant 45 runs (25 balls) fast innings and strengthened the team in the middle order.

Nehal Vadhera scored 16 runs in 9 balls, but the real glow of Punjab was seen in the end when Shashank Singh and Marcus Stoinis batted stormy in the last over and took the team to 236 runs. Shashank Singh scored an unbeaten 33 off 15 balls, while Stoinis scored an explosive innings of 15 runs in just 5 balls.

Lucknow’s poor bowling

For the bowlers of Lucknow Super Giants, this innings was no less than a nightmare. Akash Maharaj Singh took 2 wickets for 30 runs in 4 overs, while Digvesh Singh Rathi also took 2 wickets, but he took 46 runs. Both Prince Yadav and Avesh Khan proved to be quite expensive, whose economy rate was 10.80 and 14.20 respectively. Apart from this, Mayank Yadav also gave runs from the economy of 15, which was a matter of concern for Lucknow.

Second innings game

Lucknow Super Giants started batting very poorly. Within just 16 runs, both opener returned to the pavilion. Aidan Markram scored 13 runs, while Mitchell Marsh could not even open an account. The poor form of wicketkeeper-batsman Nicholas Puran continued in this match and he was dismissed for just 6 runs.

Captain Rishabh Pant’s batting also did not see any special change. He scored 18 runs off 17 balls and once again failed to give the team a big innings. The situation became such that by 73 runs, half the team of Lucknow had returned to the pavilion.

After this, Ayush Badoni and Abdul Samad tried to handle the innings. The two had an important partnership of 81 runs, but as soon as the team was seen catching the rhythm, Abdul Samad was dismissed for 45 runs in 24 balls.

Ayush Badoni struggled till the last and scored 74 runs off 40 balls, in which he hit 5 fours and 5 sixes. But by the time he adopted an aggressive style, it was too late. In the last over, Lucknow needed 49 runs to win, which proved to be impossible. With this defeat, the expectations of Lucknow’s playoffs have been shocked.

Punjab Kings bowlers showed strength

The bowlers performed well for Punjab. Arshdeep Singh impressed the most, he took 3 wickets for just 30 runs in 4 overs. Marco Yanson also took 1 wicket while bowling tight and conceded 31 runs. Ajmatullah Omrajai also took 1 wicket for 32 runs in 4 overs and maintained control in the middle overs.

However, Yuzvendra Chahal proved to be a little expensive. He spent 50 runs in 4 overs and could take only 1 wicket. Vijaykumar Vaishak’s bowling was also disappointing, he robbed 49 runs in 3 overs. At the same time, Marcus Stoinis gave 17 runs in 1 over and could not give the team any wicket.
