Delhi: In the 64th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 played on Thursday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the Gujarat Titans (GT) suffered a crushing defeat against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Batting first after losing the toss, the team led by Rishabh Pant scored a huge score of 236 runs in the prescribed 20 overs. In response, the hosts failed to chase the Gujarat Titans target.
After the match, Gujarat captain Shubman Gill blamed the bowlers and expressed disappointment. He said, “We gave an additional 15-20 runs in bowling. If we could stop him on 210-220 runs, the result could have been different. There is a big difference between the scores of 210 and 230. We bowled well in the powerplay, but could not take the wickets. He scored about 180 runs in 14 overs after the powerplay, which proved to be decisive for us.”
When asked if the decision to bowl was taken as an experiment before the playoffs, he clarified, “It was not so that I was honestly.”
Shubman also mentioned some positive glimpses of the team. He appreciated the batting of Shefern Rutherford and Shah Rukh Khan, saying, “We remained in the match till the 17th over. It is not easy to chase 240 runs, but Rutherford and Shahrukh’s innings were a big plus point for the team.”
Finally, the captain talked about focusing on the upcoming matches and said, “It is very important to get a rhythm before the playoff. We would like to return by winning the next match.”
