Delhi: Virat Kohli, the veteran batsman of the Indian cricket team and senior player of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), has once again caught the attention of the cricket world with his impeccable opinion. Recently, in an episode of RCB Podcast, Kohli, while talking about the importance of ODI cricket, has made a big statement on the mentality of the youth and the changing nature of modern cricket.
Kohli clearly said that it is not easy to understand and succeed in ODI cricket. The right -handed batsman said, “Patience, aggression and stamina – all three are necessary to succeed in ODI cricket. This format now demands a magnitude like T20 up to 50 overs.”
Kohli also questioned the mentality of the current young cricketers. He said that today’s players have become so accustomed to aggressive batting on flat pitches that when they get challenging situations, then their game does not last.
Virat further said, “The influence of T20 cricket has increased so much that players are forgetting the importance of patience and strategy. The audience is now only behind fours and sixes, which is hiding the depth of traditional cricket.”
Talking about the importance of big tournaments, Kohli said that the real player is the one who can prove his game in the pressures like the World Cup or the Champions Trophy.
He said, “The figures in the bilateral series can definitely look good, but when the tournament like the World Cup comes, you have only two opportunities to miss. There is a real mental strength and ability to withstand. It is a mistake to ignore ODIs. This is the format where the true cricketer is identified.”
