Delhi: Jasprit Bumrah performed brilliantly in Test cricket in 2024 and won the title of ICC Test Cricketer of the Year. Bumrah has become the sixth Indian player to receive this honour. Before him, this award was won by Rahul Dravid (2004), Gautam Gambhir (2009), Virender Sehwag (2010), Ravichandran Ashwin (2016), and Virat Kohli (2018).

With this award, India has equaled the record of Australia, where the maximum number of players have received this award. The only player to win this award twice is Australia’s Steve Smith (2015, 2017).

In 2024, Bumrah left all the bowlers behind by taking 71 wickets in 13 Test matches. After him, Gus Atkinson of England took 52 wickets in 11 Test matches. The special thing was that Bumrah bowled a total of 357 overs and bowled with an excellent average of 14.92.

Bumrah made a strong comeback in Test cricket after recovering from a back injury in late 2023. Under his leadership, India won home series against England and Bangladesh, while also performing well abroad in South Africa and Australia. Bumrah took the most wickets in Test cricket throughout the year and troubled the batsmen with a strike rate of 30.1.

In 2024, Jasprit Bumrah achieved another special achievement. He became the fourth Indian bowler to take more than 70 Test wickets in a year. Before him, this record was in the names of Ravichandran Ashwin, Anil Kumble and Kapil Dev.
