Delhi: As 2024 ends, Cricket Australia, as always, has selected the team of the best players of the year in the Test format. This year’s team included three players from England, two each from India and New Zealand, two from Australia and one each from Sri Lanka and South Africa.

Bumrah became the captain not Cummins-Rohit

The surprising thing was that Cricket Australia did not give place to its own team’s Pat Cummins and India’s Rohit Sharma. Instead, he made Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah the captain of the team. Bumrah had led India to victory against Australia in the Perth Test in December and was named man of the match for his brilliant innings of 5 wickets. This was Bumrah’s second test as captain. Earlier, he had captained a Test against England in 2022.

Another Indian name Yashasvi Jaiswal

The second Indian name in the team is Yashasvi Jaiswal. Jaiswal scored 1478 runs in 15 Tests in 2024, which included three centuries. This is the record of most runs scored by an Indian opener in a year. Apart from this, his 36 sixes are also the highest in a calendar year. In the home series against England in February, he scored two consecutive double centuries. His inning of 161 runs in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy was important in India’s victory.

Ben Duckett was selected as Jaiswal’s opening partner in the team from England. At number three is England’s Joe Root, who was the highest run scorer in Test in 2024. He scored 1556 runs in 17 matches and scored six centuries.

Cricket Australia’s Test squad for 2024:

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Rachin Ravindra, Harry Brook, Kamindu Mendis, Alex Carey (wicketkeeper), Matt Henry, Jasprit Bumrah (captain), Josh Hazlewood, Keshav Maharaj.
