Delhi: Indian Star fast bowler Jaspreet Bumrah has created history with his deadly bowling in the 45th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. In the match played at Wankhede Stadium between Mumbai Indians (Mi) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Bumrah took 4 important wickets while bowling brilliantly. Due to his excellent bowling, Mumbai defeated LSG by a big margin of 54 runs. In this match, Jasprit also took the record of taking the most wickets for MI.

In the match against Lucknow, Bumrah threw the third over and dismissed Aidan Markram on the fourth ball. South Africa captain Markram tried to play a big shot, but Naman Dhair caught his easy catch. With this wicket, Bumrah completed 171 wickets for Mumbai Indians in IPL and broke Lasith Malinga’s record. Malinga took 170 wickets in 122 matches for Mumbai, while Bumrah has now completed 174 wickets in 139 matches.

If we talk about taking the most wickets for any one team in the entire IPL, then this record is still in the name of Sunil Naren of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Naren has taken 187 wickets in 185 matches for KKR.

Jaspreet Bumrah’s IPL journey

Bumrah made his debut in IPL in 2013, when he played the first match for Mumbai Indians at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). In that match, Bumrah took three wickets for 32 runs. His first IPL wicket was Virat Kohli, whom he had out LBW.

In his IPL career, Bumrah has also done the feat of taking five wickets twice so far. At the beginning of this season, fast bowlers were out of the first four matches due to a back injury. He made his comeback in the fifth match against RCB, although he did not get a single wicket in that match.
