Delhi: Jasprit Bumrah will take over the team’s fast bowling on the Indian cricket team’s tour of England. Bumrah’s experience will be important for the team due to the absence of recently retired Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin. Before the tour, 31 -year -old Bumrah told how young Australian players try to mimic their special bowling action and they expressed their desire to return the game.
Bumrah said on young English players
Bumrah said during a conversation with former Australian captain Michael Clarke at Beyond23 Cricket Podcast, “This is the same game that I love. This time when I went to Australia, many young players came to meet me and tried to copy my bowling action. It was a strange experience because I used to do it before. This journey will not always work, but whenever I want to end, I want to come back, because I want to come back, because I want to come back to this game. And whatever I have learned is because of this game.
It is also a matter of retirement decision
Jasprit has been a part of the Indian team that played the World Test Championship (WTC) 2019-21 final, played the final of ODI World Cup 2023 and won the T20 World Cup 2024. Bumrah knows that he will not be able to play cricket for a long time and he said that when he feels that his body is no longer supporting, he will decide to retire from cricket.
He said, “It is not easy for any player to play every format for a long time. I have been doing this for a long time. But, in the end you have to understand in which direction your body is going and which tournaments are more important, so you have to use your body in a little sensibly and smart. I never want to leave anything as a cricketer.”
He further said, “Right now I am fine. But, I do not set any goal whether I have to play so many matches or take so many wickets. I see every day one by one. The journey so far has been good. But, the day I feel that I will feel that there is no passion for hard work or the body is not supporting, the same day will be when I will decide.”
Bumrah’s next big task will be against Ben Stokes -led team in England. Prior to that, he will be seen playing against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Eliminator of IPL 2025 on 30 May by Mumbai Indians (Mi).
