Delhi: Star wicketkeeper batsman Dinesh Karthik, who retired from international cricket after the Indian Premier League (IPL) last year, has broken the big record of veteran, Mahendra Singh Dhoni in South Africa. Karthik is currently playing for Parl Royals (PR) in the SA20 league. On January 27, in the match against Durban Super Giants (DSG), he achieved a new place by leaving Dhoni behind.
Karthik has now become the Indian wicketkeeper to score the most runs in T20 cricket. He needed only three runs to break Dhoni’s record. The right -handed batsman achieved this feat while playing 21 runs off 15 balls, in which he also hit two sixes.
Karthik has scored 7451 runs in 361 innings so far in T20 career. His average is 26.99 and the strike rate was 136.84. During this time, he has scored 34 half -centuries. At the same time, Dhoni scored 7432 runs in 342 innings. His average was 38.11 and the strike rate was 135.64. Dhoni retired from international cricket in 2020 and now he only plays IPL. Under his captaincy, Dhoni has given Chennai Super Kings (CSK) an IPL title five times. However, last year, he left the captaincy and handed over the team’s command to Ruturaj Gaikwad.
However, Dinesh Karthik has surpassed Dhoni at the moment, but Dhoni has a chance to return. Mahi is going to play in IPL 2025, where he can once again become the number-1 wicketkeeper batsman in this case.
