MS Dhoni played as a player in IPL 2024.
There is suspense about whether former Team India and Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni will play in IPL 2025 or not. Former Team India captain Dhoni played his last international match in 2019 and it has been five years since he played for Team India. One rule that has been re-implemented regarding the retention policy of players for IPL 2025 is the uncapped rule.
According to this rule, if a player has not played international cricket for five years and has also retired, then the franchise team can retain him as an uncapped player for Rs 4 crore. However, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Vishwanathan has made a surprising claim regarding this. He said that right now it is not even sure whether CSK will use this rule for Dhoni or not.
Kasi Viswanathan gave a big statement regarding MS Dhoni
According to Times of India, Kashi Vishwanathan said, ‘We cannot say anything at this stage. Maybe we should not use this rule for Dhoni. It is too early to say anything regarding this, because we have not discussed it yet.
He further said, ‘Dhoni was in America, and till now we have not had any conversation regarding this. Now this week I am travelling. So maybe there will be some talks in the coming week. So then there can be some clarity regarding this.
He said, ‘We hope that Dhoni will play, but only Dhoni himself will decide whether he will play in IPL 2025 or not.’ MS Dhoni is the most successful captain in IPL history. Under his captaincy, Chennai Super Kings has won five titles. Dhoni made CSK the champion under his captaincy in IPL 2023. However, in 2024, he left the captaincy just before the start of the season and handed over the command of the team to Rituraj Gaikwad.
