Delhi: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has criticized the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 decision that has been asked to give an additional 120 minutes of time due to rain for the last 9 matches of the league. KKR called it a “sudden decision” and said that if this rule had applied earlier, then perhaps the team’s playoff expectations would not have ended.
Why was a new 120 -minute new rule brought?
The IPL Governing Council recently decided that now the remaining 9 matches of the league will be given 2 hours of extra time due to rain, so that the entire 20 over matches can be done. Earlier, there was only an additional time of 1 hour in league matches, while there was already a provision of 2 hours in the playoffs.
Hemang Amin, COO of IPL, gave information about this change via email to all 10 teams. He said that this decision was necessary in view of the possibility of monsoon.
KKR questioned BCCI
KKR CEO Venki Mysore, replying to this, asked in the email that if the risk of rain was already there, why was this rule not implemented as soon as the tournament started again?
He gave the example of the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on 17 May. That match was canceled without throwing a single ball due to rain. The match was canceled at 10:26 pm, while the cut-off time was 10:56 pm. Both teams were given one point each.
Mysore said that if this new rule would have applied and there was an extra time of 2 hours, then perhaps a short match of 5 overs could have been done. This could have led to KKR’s playoff hopes alive.
He further wrote, “When the IPL started again, it was clear that the match of May 17 could be affected by the rain. The weather was with everyone. The match was washed away and now the 120 -minute extra time was being given, if it were first, it could have been at least 5 overs game. That washout has not ended our playoff hopes. Such suddenly and unstable decisions are not good. There is disappointment. “
