Delhi: KL Rahul, veteran batsman of the Indian team and playing for the Indian Premier League (IPL) Delhi Capitals (DC) in 2025, has revealed that distance from T20 cricket gave him a chance to understand and enhance his game. He admitted that about 16 to 18 months ago, he realized that the T20 game was changing very fast and if he has to maintain himself, it is important to increase the strike rate and play in a new style.
‘Strike rate is overrated’
Rahul’s old statement about the strike rate was very much discussed, when he said that the strike rate should not be given much attention in T20. But this time he himself admitted that the demand for the game has changed and now the same teams win more matches which set more boundary.
New attitude shown for Delhi capitals
In IPL 2025, Rahul showed aggressive attitude while playing for Delhi Capitals. He scored 539 runs this season and his strike rate was around 150, which was his best performance after 2018. In that season, he scored runs at a strike rate of 158.
Hope to return to T20 World Cup
Talking to Sky Sports, Rahul said, “Yes, I want to come to India’s T20 team again and the World Cup is definitely in my mind. But at this time I am just enjoying my game.”
T20 International match not played after 2022
33 -year -old Rahul has played 72 T20 international matches for India so far and his strike rate has been 139. He last played this format for India in the semi -finals of the 2022 T20 World Cup. Since then Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson were given priority in the team. Rahul was not part of the 2024 T20 World Cup, which India won in the US and West Indies.
Important players remain in IPL
However, despite being out of the T20 international team, Rahul’s demand in IPL did not diminish. Delhi Capitals bought him during the mega auction for Rs 14 crore and he also performed well for the team.
Information about changing game in T20
Rahul said, “While staying out of the T20 team, I got time to think about my white-ball game. I felt that the game is very fast now. Now the same teams win those who hit more fours and sixes. It is necessary to understand this change and mold themselves accordingly.”
Rahul’s presence in Test and ODI continues
Although Rahul has now been replaced by other players in T20, but he is still an important player in the Test and ODI team. In the same year, he was the first wicketkeeper in the Champions Trophy winning team of India.
Will play an important role in England tour
In the coming time, Rahul will also be seen playing in the five -Test series against England. The tour will run from 20 June to 4 August. This time Rahul can be seen opening with the new Test captain Shubman Gill.
