Delhi: On the first day of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, Australia’s debut batsman Sam Constas surprised India with his brilliant batting. This 19 year old player made even a legendary bowler like Jasprit Bumrah unstable with his aggressive batting. He moved forward on the pitch and reverse ramped Bumrah’s ball and hit a four, which was a very courageous shot.

Bumrah created history by equaling Ashwin, even after retirement the veteran spinner is included in the list

Virat hits Constas

This aggression on the pitch on the first day surprised the Indian team, and its effect was also visible on former Indian captain Virat Kohli. The incident happened when the players were changing their places after the 10th over. After taking a single off the ball of Mohammad Siraj, Sam Constas was going towards his partner Usman Khawaja. At the same time, Kohli picked up the ball and moved towards Constas. Both the players did not change their direction and collided with each other.

After the collision, there was some altercation between the two players. Khawaja immediately took charge and isolated Kohli. The umpires on the field also talked to both the players on this incident.

What did Sam Constas say?

Speaking to 7 Cricket during the lunch break, Sam expressed his views on the incident. Trent Copeland asked him, “Virat Kohli is your favorite player and suddenly you are competing with him on the field. He nudged you lightly on the shoulder. What was happening there?”

Sam replied, “I think both of their emotions were at their peak. I was adjusting my gloves and then I got a slight bump on the shoulder. But, this happens in cricket.”

Vaughan and Ponting’s reaction

Former English captain Michael Vaughan said that the match referee will definitely pay attention to this incident. He believes that an experienced player like Kohli should think again about such actions. He said, “Contas was walking in his line, while Kohli deliberately changed his direction.”

Australian legend Ricky Ponting also held Kohli responsible. He said, “Kohli deliberately covered a distance equal to one pitch and encouraged this collision. There is no doubt about it.”

Former Australian first-class cricketer Darren Berry has accused Virat Kohli of deliberately hitting his shoulder with 19-year-old debutant Sam Constas. Berry wrote on social media platform X, “Very sad because this boy considers Virat Kohli as his idol. Never meet your hero.”
