Delhi: Former New Zealand cricketer and former cricketing director of Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mike Hesson has expressed concern over Virat Kohli’s recent form in Test cricket. He said that Kohli is at that stage of his career where his entire focus is on winning matches for India and not on personal achievements. Hesson believes that this change of Kohli can prove dangerous for big teams like Australia.
Amidst the rain in Bengaluru, fans got a glimpse of Kohli, the entire stadium echoed with the name of the great cricketer.
The five-match Test series between India and Australia is starting from November 22 and fans and many former cricketers are worried about Kohli’s form, because since 2019, Kohli has been able to score only two centuries in Tests.
Hesson said, “Virat Kohli is now at that stage where he wants to win matches for India. This is dangerous for other teams, because if they are focusing on winning matches rather than individual statistics, big scores will come naturally. “Especially against a team like Australia, their approach can be dangerous.” He also told that in Test cricket, the period from 30 to 60 overs is important and Kohli does not let the game go astray at that time.
Kohli disappointed in test series against Bangladesh
Recently, after missing the Test series against England, Kohli made a comeback against Bangladesh. In the first test, he scored 6 and 17 runs, while in the second test, he scored 47 runs in 35 balls and added unbeaten 29* runs in the second innings. Although he could not score big against Bangladesh, Hesson believes that Kohli was in great form.
It is noteworthy that Virat has scored 2042 runs in 25 Test matches against Australia at an average of 47.48, which includes 8 centuries.
