Delhi: Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by one wicket in its first match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025). However, in this match, KL Rahul did not debut for DC. The reason for his absence was quite special – Rahul and his wife, Bollywood actress Aathia Shetty, were celebrating the arrival of a little angel in their house.

After the match, DC head coach Hemang Badani asked the entire team to celebrate ‘Creedal the Baby’ (gesture of swinging the child) to celebrate Rahul, which all the players happily did. Delhi Capitals shared the video of this special moment on social media and wrote – “Our family grows, our family celebrates ❤️000”. On this, Rahul replied on Instagram and wrote, “Friends, it matters a lot to me. Thank you very much!”
KL Rahul’s possible return
The next match of Delhi Capitals will be held on 30 March in Visakhapatnam from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). In this match, Rahul can join the team and play his first match for DC.
DC bought KL Rahul for Rs 14 crore in the IPL 2025 auction. However, Akshar Patel has been given the responsibility of captaincy in his place. The opening for DC already has Jake Fraser-Macagark and Vice-captain Faf du Plessis, so Rahul is less likely to open.
Now it has to be seen whether he replaces Abhishek Porel as a wicketkeeper-batsman or batting at number 3. Another option may be that he should be included in the team instead of Sameer Rizvi and sent to number 4.
