Delhi: The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) may be different from its mentor Zaheer Khan after not making a place in the playoffs in 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL). According to reports, Zaheer’s contract is now over and there is no possibility of pushing it forward. The performance of the team is constantly falling and now the franchise is in a mood to take some big decisions.
LSG owner Sanjeev Goenka is very serious about his team. The team has not reached the playoffs in the last two seasons. This time the team was captained by Rishabh Pant, the most expensive player of IPL. However, the team lost many close matches and stood at number seven in the points table. Out of 14, only 6 matches won.
Inner pull going on in LSG?
According to the report of Cricbuzz, everything inside the team is not going well. It is believed that mentor Zaheer Khan can be given the responsibility, while coach Justin Langer will not be affected. Langer has been with the team since Gautam Gambhir left LSG.
Pant’s performance was average
Rishabh Pant could not affect much in this season. He scored an unbeaten 118 against RCB in the last league match, but he was not in form before that. He scored 269 runs in 13 innings throughout the season. His average was 24.45 and strike rate 133.16.
There was a crisis in bowling too
LSG’s fast bowling was the biggest concern. Team mentor Zaheer Khan was working with fast bowlers, but in most matches, the bowlers scored a lot of runs.
- Mayank Yadav could play only two matches due to injury.
- Akash Deep, who returned from injury, took just 3 wickets in 6 matches.
- Prince Yadav did well in the beginning, but could take only 3 wickets in 6 innings.
- Shardul Thakur took 13 wickets in 10 matches, but his economy rate was 11.
- Avesh Khan took 13 wickets, but he also proved to be very expensive.
- William O’Rurke took 6 wickets in 3 matches, but gave 75 runs in a match against RCB.
At the same time, spinner Digvesh Rathi took 14 wickets, while Ravi Bishnoi did not appear in the rhythm.
What will happen next?
LSG can now take decisions regarding its team and support staff. Zaheer Khan’s shift can be the first big step. There may be further changes in the team before IPL 2026. Fans hope that next time the team will return strong.
