Delhi: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjeev Goenka has said about KL Rahul that he will always be like his family. Rahul’s departure from LSG was a big topic of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. Goenka expressed his views on this in TRS podcast.

‘Rahul Sharif is a human being’
Sanjeev Goenka said, “KL Rahul will always be like family to me. He captained the Lucknow team for three years and gave good results during his tenure. I wish him success, whatever it may be.”
Goenka also praised Rahul’s talent and said that he wants the world to see his ability. He said, “He is a decent person. KL is a very honest and nice person. I want an honest person to always get good things in life. He is very talented and I am sure he will showcase his talent to everyone. My best wishes are always with him.”
Rahul’s departure from LSG
LSG did not retain KL Rahul and he went to Delhi Capitals for Rs 14 crore in the auction. After the announcement of retention, Goenka had said in a video that he retained such players who give their priority to the team. He said, “We selected players who have a winning mindset, who put the team first and not their personal goals and ambitions. “We wanted to keep the core of the team as much as possible.”
Rahul was reprimanded after the defeat
The news of dispute between Rahul and Goenka increased further when LSG lost by 10 wickets against SRH last season. After the match, cameras caught Goenka and Rahul talking, in which Goenka looked very angry and was gesturing with his hands, while Rahul stood silently.
Rahul later said that he was unaware of Goenka’s comments. But, he himself had decided to make a new beginning. He said in an interview to Star Sports, “This decision had already been taken. I don’t know when these comments were made, but I wanted to make a fresh start. I wanted an environment where I could play with freedom and the team environment was light and balanced. There is already a lot of pressure in IPL.”
