Delhi: Former Indian fast bowler Atul Wasan believes that no one knows what is going on in Virat Kohli’s mind at the moment as the 36-year-old is struggling in Test cricket. Despite scoring a century in the first match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth, Kohli has not been as impressive against Australia.
‘Senior players did not live up to expectations’, former captain raised questions on selectors
Virat is getting out in only one way
Virat has often been seen going after the balls going outside the off stump. He is getting out while playing the balls bowled on the seventh-eighth stump line. If we leave out Perth’s century, he has scored only 67 runs in six innings. Discussions are intensifying regarding his poor form, and some fans are advising him to consider retirement.
‘Such a long time is a loss for the team’
Atul Wasan believes that there should be a ‘succession plan’ to give clarity to the selectors and team management. Wasan told ANI, “Virat has scored runs, but he himself knows what is happening. The player always thinks that ‘my good days are about to come’. I will do it right away. But, such a long time is hurting the team. Questions are being raised whether he should be dropped. A kind of ‘lynch mob’ like situation is created.”
He further said, “In such a situation there should be an exit plan or succession policy. This is also important for management, team and cricket structure. We don’t know what’s going on in his mind.”
Kohli’s performance in 2024 has been very ordinary. He has averaged only 24.52 in Test matches this year. This year he has only one century and one half-century in his name.
