Delhi: Recently, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) had decided that now the Test series played between India and England in England will be known as ‘Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy’ instead of ‘Pataudi Trophy’. Earlier, whenever the Test series was held in England between the two countries, it was played for the Pataudi Trophy, but now ECB decided to retire the name.
However, the great Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar wants the legacy of the Pataudi Trophy to be maintained even further. According to a Cricbuzz report, Tendulkar, taking the matter seriously, has urged both the ECB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to reconsider their decision and continue the Pataudi Trophy.
The report also stated that Jai Shah, chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), has also played an important role in this direction and has ensured that the upcoming Indo-England Test series is played in the name of Pataudi Trophy.
According to Cricbuzz, an ECB official said, “Yes, it is sure that the Pataudi Trophy will be retained in the Indo-England series.”
It is worth noting that according to the report of Hindustan Times, the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy was to be launched at the Lord’s Stadium in London on the fourth day of the recently concluded ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final. The final was played between Australia and South Africa. However, this unveiling was postponed due to the death of 241 people in the Ahmedabad plane crash.
Meanwhile, the upcoming five -Test series between India and England is considered very important for both teams, as it will start the new World Test Championship cycle. Also, the Indian team will be eyeing winning the Test series in England for the first time since 2007.
