Delhi: A stand has been named after former Indian Test captain and T20 World Cup winning player Rohit Sharma at the historic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. On this special occasion, Indian cricket team and many players of Mumbai Indians (Mi) greeted Rohit. Mumbai Indians shared a video on their social media, in which many players of the team expressed their feelings towards Rohit.
Suryakumar Yadav and Yashasvi Jaiswal congratulated Rohit. Yashasvi laughed and said, “What to say to Rohit Bhaiyya? When a player is playing and a stand in his name, this is a big achievement. I am very excited to hit a lot of sixes in your stand.”
At the same time, Jasprit Bumrah said, “Hi Rohit, I just wanted to congratulate you. To have a stand in your name is a special feeling. Best wishes for the future.”
On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer said, “You know that all young players look at you. Playing with you has always been fun and I can proudly say that I have played cricket in your era.”
Abhishek Nair, former Indian batting coach and assistant coach of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), jokingly said that now he expects a free ticket at Rohit Sharma stand in Wankhede. He said, “In 2011, I was sitting on the couch of your house, then I did not think that one day there will be a stand of your name in Wankhede. Now Wankhede is coming and waiting to see your stand and take free tickets.”
With the inauguration of Rohit Sharma Stand, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) named a stand named after former ICC, BCCI and MVA president Sharad Pawar. Along with this, a stand was also inaugurated in the name of former Indian captain Ajit Wadekar. On this occasion, the MCA dedicated a special lounge in memory of its late president Amol Kale.
