Delhi: After Indian legendary batsman Rohit Sharma retired from Test cricket, young batsman Shubman Gill has a good chance to captain India’s Test team. He can start his captaincy journey with the five -match Test series against England starting on 20 June. Former England spinner Moin Ali believes that Shubman Gill may be the right choice for captaincy. However, he also said that Gill does not have much experience of captaincy in Test matches.
What did Moin Ali say on the captaincy of Shubman Gill?
Moin Ali also said that the Indian Croat Control Board (BCCI) probably wants to make Jaspreet Bumrah captain, as he has captained the team before and is a good leader. But, seeing Bumrah’s fitness and workload, it does not look possible. He captained the team in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia and also won India in the Perth Test. But, after this, he suffered a back injury in the Sydney Test and since then questions started to arise about his captaincy.
Moin Ali said in a conversation with Sky Sports, “I think the captaincy will get to Shubman Gill. BCCI wanted to make Bumrah a captain, but due to injury, he should also get a game in the entire series, it is not decided. Gill has performed well in the Test. Will definitely be challenging. “
This will be Gill’s second visit to England. However, Gill’s record in Test has not been very special yet. He has scored at an average of just 35 in 32 Tests, and this average is only 29 abroad. His only Test century abroad came against Bangladesh.
