Delhi: Australia’s star spinner Nathan Lyon registered his name in history on Saturday (1 February), when he achieved this feat as the first spinner to take 200 wickets in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) and the second bowler in total. Leone did this feat during the first session of the fourth day of the first Test match being played between Australia and Sri Lanka at Gaul International Stadium.
Leone dismissed former Sri Lankan team captain Dinesh Chandimal, who was caught out by Travis Head by scoring 31 off 49 balls. This was his 200th wicket in WTC.
Australia’s Test and ODI captain Pat Cummins, as the first bowler to take 200 wickets in the WTC, made a record on 5 January 2025 on the third day of the fifth Test match played between India and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
