Delhi: Former India captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who is known for his calm and easy-going personality, has always stayed away from social media. In a recent interview with Eurogrip Tyres, Dhoni shared his reasons for maintaining distance from social media and shared his thoughts on the subject.
‘Managers asked to be active on social media’
Dhoni said, “I have never been very fond of social media. I have had different managers since the beginning and everyone had the same suggestion that I should be active on social media, build my public relations and post something to connect with the fans.” However, for Dhoni, cricket was primary, and he never considered it more important than social media.
‘I don’t need PR’
The former captain said, “I started playing cricket in 2004, and Twitter became popular after a while. Then Instagram came along, and all the managers kept telling me to increase my presence on social media. But I thought, if I play good cricket, I don’t need PR.”
Dhoni believes that keeping distance from social media reduced the stress in his life. He said, “What should I post? What is necessary and what is not? It becomes a challenge, if there was something important, share it. I don’t care who has how many followers or who is doing what. I know that if I focus on cricket, everything else will fall into place.”
