Delhi: The Indian Test team was announced on Saturday for the tour of England. This time the command of the team has been handed over to Shubman Gill while Rishabh Pant has been made vice -captain. This team, declared for the five -match Test series, has seen some big decisions. The most important decision was that Shreyas Iyer was not included in the team, while Karun Nair has returned.
‘No place in the team for Shreyas’
During the press conference, Chairman of the Selection Committee Ajit Agarkar said that at present there is no place for Shreyas in the Test team. He said, “Shreyas has shown a good game in the ODI series and has also scored runs in domestic cricket, but there is no place for him in the Test team yet.”
Shreyas is currently captaining Punjab Kings in the IPL and his team has reached the playoffs. Despite this, he has not been selected for the England tour. Not only this, the star batsman has not got a place in the India A team for the tour of England.
Karun Nair’s strong return
Karun Nair’s return is considered one of the best comeback in cricket. He has played 6 Test matches for India so far, in which he scored 374 runs at an average of 62.33. This figure also includes a triple century of his. Their test scores so far have been: 4, 13, 303*, 26, 0, 23 and 5 runs.
Karun’s record in first class cricket has also been very good. He has scored 8211 runs at an average of 49.16, including 23 centuries and 36 half -centuries. Despite being such a great record, he was ignored for a long time. Karun last played Tests for India in 2017, when there was a match against Australia in Dharamshala.
Although Karun was part of the team of England tour in 2018, he did not get a chance to play. Now after seven years, he has returned to the team and if he gets a chance to play, then it will happen after eight years when he will play for India in Test cricket.
