Delhi: The South African cricket team has suffered a major setback. The team’s veteran fast bowler Enrique Norkhia has been ruled out of the ongoing T20 series and the upcoming three-match ODI series against Pakistan. 31-year-old Norkhia suffered this injury during training before the match, when his left toe got fractured.

The scan done after the injury confirmed a fracture, due to which he had to be ruled out of the series. In his place, 27-year-old all-rounder Abdu Dayan Gelim has been included in the team. Gelim has taken 46 wickets in 60 T20 matches so far and this can prove to be a big opportunity for him.
The team will feel the absence of Norkhia
Norkhia, who was South Africa’s most successful bowler with 15 wickets in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in June, has not played for the national team since June due to this injury. Due to workload management, he had also opted out of the national contract this year.
Long list of injured players
The South African team has recently had to deal with a growing list of injured players. Norkhia is the fifth key player to get injured. Gerald Coetzee is out with a groin injury, Nandre Berger with a back fracture, and Lungi Ngidi with a hip injury. At the same time, Wiaan Mulder is absent after the first test against Sri Lanka due to a broken finger.
This is a time full of challenges for South Africa, but with the arrival of young players like Gelim, the team is expected to get new energy. We are praying for Norkhia’s speedy recovery and return.
