Delhi: Indian Premier League (IPL) fast bowler Mohammed Shami’s performance in 2025 has been disappointing so far. The speed of this experienced bowler who returned to the field after a long injury has decreased and he is not able to achieve his old rhythm. Shami, who was playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), could not leave the impact that was expected from them. Now serious questions are being raised about their fitness and form.
In IPL 2025, Shami has so far taken only 6 wickets in 9 matches. His bowling average is 56.17 and economy rate is 11.23, which is a very poor figure in terms of his career standards.
Former New Zealand fast bowler Danny Morrison while talking on ESPNcricinfo said, “When a player has such a big surgery, he has the first mental effect. Then you have to give time to get your rhythm back, and the truth, now Shami is not 29 years old. Both age and injury are working against him.”
This instability of Shami has become a matter of concern at a time when the Indian team is preparing for the important tour of England later this year. The series will begin the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle. The last time India lost a 3–1 series to Australia, so this time the team will take the field with the intention of making a strong debut.
