Delhi: In the final session of the fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Indian captain Rohit Sharma supported the third umpire’s decision for the controversial dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal. Jaiswal was given out when the spikeometer showed no spike but indicated a slight increase. This decision became a big issue of discussion among cricket fans and experts.

‘Difficult to talk as captain’, Rohit Sharma confused about Rishabh Pant

In the post-match press conference, Rohit said, “It was not visible in the snicko, but with the naked eye, there was a clear deflection. In all honesty, it looked like he had touched it. But, it often happens that we end up on the wrong side of such decisions.”

Jaiswal’s important role

Chasing a huge target of 340 runs, Jaiswal’s dismissal proved to be the turning point of the match. His 88-run partnership with Rishabh Pant kept India’s hopes alive. But, after his dismissal, the Indian batting order disintegrated and the team lost its last seven wickets for only 34 runs.

With this defeat, India not only had to lose 2-1 in this series, but also got a big blow to its hopes of reaching the final of the World Test Championship.
