Delhi: Former India head coach and former cricketer Ravi Shastri has recently expressed satisfaction over Shreyas Iyer and Ishaan Kishan’s return to BCCI’s Central Contract. Both the players were last excluded from the contract due to non -playing domestic cricket, but now it has been re -included for 2024/25. Ravi Shastri said, “I am happy that the matter is resolved by mutual conversation and both got a chance again.”
Shreyas Iyer’s important role in ODIs
Shastri, especially praising Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer, said that he has become a trusted batsman in ODI cricket for India in the last 18 months. He said, “Shreyas recently performed brilliantly in the Champions Trophy and has confirmed his place in the team. The identity he is getting now is completely justified.”
Learning from mistakes
Shastri admitted that Iyer and Kishan paid the price of their mistake. “Both received a warning, which is sometimes necessary. But now everything is resolved in the right way and both have returned their place.”
Success in technology changes
Talking about the technical improvement in Shreyas Iyer’s game, Shastri said that he has made major changes in his stance and movement. Earlier, he used to depend on the leg side very much, due to which the bowlers used to target him. But now he performs the back and attractive movement, so that he is able to play shots on both off and leg.
Now shots can play on both sides of the field
Shastri said, “Now they can also bridge and hook on the short ball, and if the ball is outside the off stump, you can also play the cut. This change makes them more dangerous because now they are able to play on both sides of the field.”
Strong performance continues in IPL
In IPL 2025, Shreyas Iyer is currently captaining Punjab Kings and has scored 263 runs in 8 matches so far. His average is 43.83, indicating his continuous performance.
Expected to return to Test team
Although Shreyas played the last Test against England in Visakhapatnam in February 2024, Shastri feels that there is still a chance to return to the Test team. He said, “His place in white-ball cricket is confirmed, but the match for the test is tough. The rest of the players will also have to see.”
