Along with Azam, fast bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah have also been dropped from the team. In their place, Hasibullah, Mehran Mumtaz and Kamran Ghulam have been included in the team. Selection committee member Aaqib Javed said that the selection of the team for the upcoming Test matches against England was challenging. He said that this decision has been taken keeping in mind the current form of the players, their return to the series and the upcoming international program.

It is noteworthy that Babar has not scored any Test half-century since December 2022 and due to this poor form, he has been sat out. However, after the first Test, captain Shan Masood and coach Jason Gillespie supported Babar and called him the best batsman of Pakistan. Despite this, the committee decided to oust Babar on the basis of majority.
