Delhi: There is doubt over the participation of Pakistan opener Saim Ayyub in the Champions Trophy. A specialist in London said that his ankle injury may take more than six weeks to heal completely.
More than six weeks to heal
Saim Ayyub suffered this injury while fielding on the first day of the second Test against South Africa in Cape Town. After the injury, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) immediately sent him from Cape Town to London so that he could be examined by specialist doctors.
In London, Syme consulted Dr. Lucky Jayhaslin, an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports-related ankle injuries. The doctor has advised Syme not to try to play cricket too quickly, as this could seriously aggravate his injury. A PCB source said, “Dr. Jayhasleen has said that it may take more than six weeks for Syme to fully recover.”
Difficult to play in Champions Trophy
Syme will undergo a checkup from another renowned orthopedic surgeon in London on Friday. After this the selectors will decide whether he should be included in the team for the Champions Trophy or not. The tournament is starting from 19th February.
The source also said that the selectors want to keep Syme in the initial squad so that his recovery can be monitored. However, looking at the current situation, it seems that Syme will not be able to participate in the Champions Trophy.
