Record broken after 33 years

Pakistan achieved a historic feat, as it was the first time that a team clean swept an ODI series in South Africa. This was the first time on South Africa’s home soil that a team achieved a 3-0 series win. South Africa played its first ODI series in 1991–92, and this was the first time that South Africa had to face a clean sweep on its own soil.

Pakistan won the series 3-0

In the third ODI, Pakistan, batting first, scored 308 runs for 9 wickets. Sam Ayub scored another brilliant century, taking the team’s score beyond 300. Chasing the target, South Africa scored only 271 runs and lost to Pakistan by 36 runs. In this way Pakistan won the series 3-0. Earlier, Pakistan had won by 3 wickets in the first ODI in Durban and by 81 runs in the second ODI in Cape Town.

Pakistan won despite losing the toss

Another special thing for Pakistan was that it won all three matches despite losing the toss. Under the leadership of Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan clean swept the ODI series in South Africa and he became the first captain to achieve such a feat. With this victory, Pakistan has become the first Asian team to win the ODI series in South Africa thrice. Pakistan had earlier won the ODI series in South Africa in 2013 and 2021 also.
