Delhi: For the first time in the history of the World Test Championship (WTC), Pakistan has finished at the lowest position. On Monday, January 27, Shan Masood and his team suffered a 120-run defeat against West Indies in the second Test at the Multan Cricket Stadium.
Pakistan lags behind in 2023-25 WTC cycle
Pakistan finished the 2023-25 WTC cycle with a points percentage of 27.98, winning 5 of the 14 Test matches. Although they made a comeback after falling 0-1 in the Test series against England, they could not escape from the bottom position. West Indies secured eighth position by a difference of 0.23 percentage points.
Before the series, Pakistan was in eighth place.
Before this series, Pakistan was ranked eighth and their points percentage was 24.31, which was not much higher than West Indies’ 24.24 percent. Pakistan had won the first Test in Multan by 127 runs, but with the defeat in the second Test they also lost the chance of winning the series.

Pakistan was at seventh place in the last cycle
In the first edition of the WTC, Pakistan had secured the seventh position, while Bangladesh was at the bottom. In the 2021-23 cycle, Pakistan was ranked seventh, while Bangladesh was again at the bottom. This time Pakistan secured the lowest position, while Bangladesh remained at seventh position.

Pakistan weakened under pressure
On the third day of the second Test against West Indies, Pakistan were all out for 133 runs while chasing 254 runs. Jomel Warrican took 5 wickets for 27 runs in 16 overs and put Pakistan in a lot of trouble. Gudkesh Moti and Kevin Sinclair also took 2-2 wickets.
