Delhi: Captain Rohit Sharma was not included in the playing XI announced for the Test match between India and Australia being played in Sydney. In this match, the team is being captained by Jasprit Bumrah, who had given India a historic 295-run victory in the first Test match of the series at Perth Stadium. During the toss, Bumrah said that Rohit had “decided to rest himself” as his performance had not been good recently.
In this season of Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Rohit Sharma has so far been able to score only 31 runs in three matches. This decision was taken in view of his poor form.
Rishabh Pant’s statement
In the post-day press conference, Rishabh Pant said that Rohit’s decision to sit out was an emotional decision. He said, “It was an emotional decision. He has been the captain of the team for so many years, we see him as a leader. There are some decisions in which you (I) cannot be involved. I can’t tell anything more than that.”

Under the captaincy of Jasprit Bumrah, the team was all out for just 185 runs in the first innings of the Sydney Test. Rishabh Pant scored the highest score of 40 runs, while Bumrah played an important inning of 22 runs in the end.
After the start of Australia’s innings, he got a chance to play only three overs. Konstas hit a four on the very first ball of Bumrah’s ball. But, Bumrah ended the day’s play by dismissing Usman Khawaja on the last ball.
