Delhi: Recently, the Indian cricket team looked helpless while struggling against spin bowling against New Zealand. Indian batsmen, who are considered among the best players in the world against spin, were seen faltering in home conditions too. Along with cricket fans, former England captain Kevin Pietersen has also expressed concern over this. He gave tips to the batsmen to improve their game against spin and also targeted T20 cricket, saying that due to this the standard of batting in Test cricket has declined.
SA vs IND: Indian team with Suryakumar will face the ‘injured lions’ of South Africa in the T20I series.
In the three-Test home series, the Indian team lost to New Zealand 3-0, which is considered to be the most embarrassing home defeat in its history. Before this, India had never faced a clean sweep at home in a Test series of three or more matches. It is noteworthy that this is the first time that a non-Asian team has defeated India in spin itself.
Kevin Pietersen, reacting to this, said on social media, “It should not be surprising to see the decline in batting technique and skill in Test cricket. “Cricket has now become a explosive game, due to which the standard of batting in Test matches is decreasing.”
He also said, “There is only one way to play spin – you have to practice for hours against it. There is no shortcut to this.”
Indian team’s legendary batsman flopped
At present the Indian team is going through a bad phase. The team does not have experienced middle order batsmen like Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and Hanuma Vihari. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are also struggling for form. In such a situation, there are expectations from young players like Sarfaraz Khan, Shubhman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who are currently performing averagely.
