Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday issued 10 new rules for all Indian players. Their objective is to maintain discipline, unity and positive atmosphere in the team. Although, these rules apply to all players, but they can have the biggest impact on big players like Team India captain Rohit Sharma, batsman Virat Kohli and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah.

What are the 10 new rules?

5 rules that can directly impact these players

Compulsory to play in home matches

BCCI has made it clear that unless a player is injured or has not taken prior permission from the coach and selectors, it will be necessary for him to play in domestic cricket. Rohit last played domestic cricket in 2016, Kohli in 2012 and Bumrah in 2018.

It is mandatory to travel with the team

BCCI has said that all players will have to travel with the team for matches and practice. Traveling separately with family will not be considered good for discipline and team unity. If anyone wants to travel separately, prior permission of the head coach and chairman of the selection committee will be required. Since Covid-19, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah often travel separately from the team.

Ban on personal brand promotion during tour

Now players will not be able to take part in any personal brand promotion or shoot while they are on tour for India. Its objective is to ensure that the player’s focus remains entirely on cricket and the responsibilities of the team.

Family Travel Policy

BCCI has also made a rule that only on foreign tours longer than 45 days, players’ families (partners and children below 18 years) can accompany them. Besides, it has also been decided that the family can stay with the players only for a maximum of 14 days. Till now, players like Rohit, Kohli and Bumrah have stayed with their families throughout the tour.

It is important to stay with the team until the series ends

BCCI has made it clear that the player will have to stay with the team till the end of the entire tour or series, even if the match ends first. This rule is designed to maintain team unity and team bonding. Rohit and Kohli often returned home after home Test matches that ended early.

It is clear from these new rules that BCCI is very serious about the discipline and unity of the team. It may be challenging for big players to follow these instructions, but it is considered necessary to implement them for the strength of the team.
