Two veteran players of Team India Rohit Sharma And Virat Kohli shocked the entire cricket world by saying goodbye to Test cricket within just five days. The decision surprised not only his fans, but also his former fellow and experienced off -spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.
In his YouTube show ‘Ash Ki Baat’, Ashwin spoke openly on the sudden retirement of the two players and called it a new challenge for Indian Test cricket and the beginning of ‘Gautam Gambhir Yuga’.
R Ashwin made a big statement on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s retirement
Ashwin clearly said that he could not imagine that Rohit and Kohli would retire from Test cricket together in so many times. He said, “I had no idea that the two would retire together. It would be a difficult time for Indian cricket. I really consider it to be the beginning of Gautam Gambhir era.”
He further said that Rohit should have been captaining till at least the England tour. “It is only right for leadership, but Rohit should have played till the England Test. If he had performed, he would probably lead the team even further.”
Ashwin also expressed his feelings on Virat Kohli’s retirement and said that he could play for a year or two more Test cricket. “Kohli still had energy and passion left for Test cricket. I think they had one or two years or two. There is no other thing like their appearance and energy.”
Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket on Monday, which ended his magnificent journey in 2011. The former Indian captain scored 9,230 runs in 123 Tests at an average of 46.85, including 30 centuries. As captain, he took India to the No. 1 Test rankings and won the historic series in Australia in 2018-19.
