Delhi: In the first match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) suffered a 7 -wicket defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Subsequently, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane’s leadership is being fiercely questioned. Especially his decisions taken in bowling are being severely criticized.
Rahane defended 175 runs and did not hand over bowling to Sunil Naren and Harshit Rana in the powerplay. He started Vaibhav Arora, while he kept Harshit out of the best bowlers of the previous season. Phil Soult took advantage of Arora’s bad line and length and scored fast, by the time Rahane brought his main bowlers, it was too late. Virat Kohli and Salt did not give any chance to KKR bowlers.
At the same time, Sunil Narine bowled economically for the bowlers even in difficult times. He gave just 27 runs in 4 overs and also took one wicket. Despite this, he was not bowled in the powerplay. Former veteran Indian players, Suresh Raina and Robin Uthappa expressed displeasure over Rahane’s decision.
Raina said- Rahane will have to learn captaincy
Suresh Raina said on Star Sports, “He should have already brought Sunil Naren and Harshit Rana on bowling. Naren has dismissed Virat Kohli four times, but still he was not given a chance in the initial overs. Rahane will have to learn the captaincy.”
Uthappa also criticized
Robin Uthappa also questioned Rahane’s captaincy skills, saying, “He is a good captain in Test cricket, but he needs to be more active in white ball format. If he wants to remain captain, he will have to improve his decisions.”
In the very first match, questions have been raised on Rahane’s captaincy. Now it has to be seen what changes he makes in his strategy in the upcoming matches.
