Delhi: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Ajinkya Rahane on Tuesday took full responsibility for the 12 -run defeat against Punjab Kings (PBKS). In this match played in Mullanpur, Punjab had set a target of just 112 runs in front of Kolkata, but Kolkata’s strong batting line-up was piled up by scoring just 95 runs in 15.1 overs.
Andre Russell tried his best to win by standing till the last, but Marco Yansen bowled him and turned him to Kolkata’s expectations and gave Punjab a memorable victory.
After the match, Captain Rahane took full responsibility for a player instead of holding a player responsible for the defeat. He said, “I take full responsibility for this defeat. I played a wrong shot and our team’s position deteriorated from there. I was not sure about DRS, so no one wanted to take any risk.”
Rahane further said, “The wicket was not easy, but the target of 111 runs could be achieved. As a batting unit we performed very poorly.”
Praising his bowlers, he said, “Our bowlers bowled well against Punjab’s strong batting line-up. But, we were negligent in batting. We have to take responsibility for it as a unit.”
He further said, “Many things were going on in my mind. I am very disappointed. Now keeping myself calm, you have to think what to talk to the team.”
