Delhi: In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) suffered an embarrassing defeat against Punjab Kings (PBKS). The team chased an easy target of just 112 and was all out for 95 runs for 62 runs. This match was completely like a nightmare for KKR. Especially captain Ajinkya Rahane’s dismissal proved to be the turning point of the match.
Rahane was LBW off Yuzvendra Chahal, but later in the replay, the ball showed that the ball was off the off stump. That is, he could survive after taking DRS. However, Rahane did not take a review and returned to the pavilion himself. When Rahane was given out, Raghuvanshi advised him to take DRS. But, he had said “maybe this can be an umpire call”. Rahane felt that even if the review was given out, the team would have only one review left. So he did not take the risk of taking a review.
Rahane said, “As a batsman I was thinking that the review should be saved for later. If I have been out with a review, the team will have less options further. Our conversation was not clear. If the partner says clearly that there is no out, I would definitely take the review.”
Chahal took full advantage of Rahane’s mistake
After Rahane was dismissed, Chahal put pressure on the KKR batsmen. Raghuvanshi was also dismissed in the next over, who scored 37 runs in 28 balls. After this, Chahal broke the back of KKR’s batting by dismissing Rinku Singh and Ramandeep Singh in his third over for two consecutive balls.
With this defeat, KKR has faced defeat in the fourth match of his seven. The team’s next match will be held on 21 April against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the home ground in Kolkata.
